Differences Between Patients With Intermittent Claudication and Critical Limb Ischemia Undergoing Endovascular Intervention: Insights From the Excellence in Peripheral Artery Disease Registry
October 27, 2021
CIRCULATION: CARDIOVASCULAR INTERVENTIONS
Background: There are limited data on differences in angiographic distribution of peripheral artery disease and endovascular revascularization strategies in patients presenting with intermittent claudication (IC) and critical limb ischemia (CLI). We aimed to compare anatomic features, treatment strategies, and clinical outcomes between patients with IC and CLI undergoing endovascular revascularization.
First-ever Global Consensus for the Appropriate Use of IVUS in Peripheral Vascular Disease Interventions
October 20, 2021
DIAGNOSTIC AND INTERVENTIONAL CARDIOLOGY (DAIC)
Philips, a global leader in health technology and intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) solutions, announced that a worldwide committee of 40 cross-specialty medical experts achieved the first-ever consensus for the appropriate use of IVUS in peripheral vascular disease (PVD) interventions. The new consensus and recommendations for use of IVUS aim to improve quality care in PVD and are based on evidence, expert practice standards, and clinical experience.
PAD patients more likely to die from COVID-19
October 18, 2021
CARDIOVASCULAR BUSINESS
Patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD) face an above-average risk of death or adverse outcomes when hospitalized for COVID-19, according to a new analysis published in Current Problems in Cardiology. “COVID-19 is a disease with many diverse manifestations, ranging from asymptomatic disease to mild symptoms, and more severely, thrombotic events, acute respiratory syndrome, and death,” wrote lead author Kim G. Smolderen, PhD, a specialist at Yale University, and colleagues.
Cell Therapy Promising as Limb-Saving Treatment in Diabetes
October 6, 2021
THE MEDICAL PROGRESS
Bone marrow derived autologous cell therapy (ACT) has been shown to significantly reduce the rate of major amputation at 5 years in people with diabetes who developed critical limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI). In a study of 130 patients, 64% of 42 patients who were treated conservatively needed a major amputation at 5 years versus just 30% of 45 patients who had been treated with ACT (P = .011).

EXPRESS HEALTHCARE
Royal Philips has announced that a worldwide committee of 40 cross-specialty medical experts achieved the first-ever consensus for the appropriate use of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) in peripheral vascular disease (PVD) interventions. The new consensus and recommendations for use of IVUS aim to improve quality care in PVD and are based on evidence, expert practice standards, and clinical experience.
VIVA 2021: Consensus established for appropriate use of IVUS in peripheral interventions

VASCULAR NEWS
A worldwide committee of 40 cross-speciality medical experts achieved the first-ever consensus for the appropriate use of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) in peripheral vascular disease (PVD) interventions.
Rivaroxaban and Aspirin Dual Therapy for Peripheral Artery Disease
October 4, 2021
HematologyAdvisor
A systematic review and meta-analysis found that low-dose rivaroxaban with aspirin was more effective than aspirin alone for reducing major cardiovascular (CV) events and limb outcomes among patients with peripheral artery disease (PAD). Findings of the review were recently published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology.
The association between pain, balance, fall, and disability in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis with vascular claudication
October 1, 2021
THE KOREAN JOURNAL OF PAIN
Background: The effect of lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) and peripheral vascular disease (PVD), which occurs with similar degenerative conditions, when seen together, has not been studied. The aim of this study is to examine and compare the relationship between pain, balance, disability, fear of falling, and kinesiophobia in LSS patients with intermittent vascular claudication (IVC).
Blood marker could help ID those at risk of debilitating peripheral artery disease
October 1, 2021
ScienceDaily
Summary: Researchers have shown that high levels of a specific protein circulating in the blood accurately detect a severe type of peripheral artery disease that narrows the arteries in the legs and can raise the risk of heart attack and stroke.
The Interaction Between Self-Reported Sleep Duration and Physical Activity on Peripheral Artery Disease in Chinese Adults: A Cross-Sectional Analysis in the Tianning Cohort Study
September 29, 2021
DOVEPRESS
Purpose: Sleep duration was associated with large artery atherosclerosis, but its association with atherosclerosis in lower extremity arteries was not well studied. Together with sleep, physical activity constitutes main component of our daily life and influences sleep. Here, we aimed to examine the independent and joint associations of sleep duration and physical activity with peripheral artery disease (PAD) in Chinese adults.
